Meet Ruth: Our local interior designer

Ruth Milne, founder of Walthamstow-based Studio Milne, just so happens to be an East London neighbour of ours. We were made up when she agreed to design a kitchen scheme that features our brand new SWIRLED Collection.

Challenging space

“I’m a qualified Interior Designer and Interior Architect and work with my clients on both residential and commercial boutique projects. As I’m qualified in both Design and Architecture, I'm able to help my clients make the most of challenging spaces and layouts, whilst also making them look aesthetically beautiful.

My signature design style is pared back, with lots of texture and layering. I love to create calming spaces inspired by nature, so I often include planting and organic shapes and colours."

Spring time trends

“I try not to follow trends too closely! Instead, I work with my clients to create spaces with longevity that reflect their personalities.
That said, I do find in most seasons that there are trends that I love and reflect my signature design. At the moment, I’m appreciating bringing the outside in, mid-century influences, colour pops and all the curves! ”

On the SWIRLED Collection

“I love the simplicity of Plank's new SWIRLED collection. The pieces feel luxurious and are decorative, in a refined way. I really like the satin finish and the subtle knurled edges.
In my kitchen design scheme, I paired the new SWIRLED Collection with organic inspired materials. It’s a soft, muted colour palette and the texture of the elm veneer, concrete and the subtle terrazzo tiles and worktop play off the handles beautifully.
Due to its simplicity, I believe it would be easy for anyone to implement the collection into a wide variety of interior design schemes. For instance, they would look equally as good paired with strong or dark colours too.”

DIY vs paying the experts

“When it comes to the practical stuff, I’m all for experimenting and tackling small DIY projects, like sanding and painting a piece of furniture. But I think if you aren’t experienced and can afford it, it’s best to leave the big jobs to the professionals! If you are investing in good quality products, you want to make sure they are used correctly and finished to a high standard. ”

Interior inspo, from a pro

“The design duo at @arentpykestudio are right up my street, and they have a similar design aesthetic to mine. I love their inspirational high-end residential design and their use of texture and vintage pieces.
@rachelchudley is fantastic for colour inspiration and I always enjoy her eclectic style.
@melanielissackinteriors is great for DIY tips and creative styling ideas.”
