Step into Sharn’s North London abode

Starting plans for a full-blown renovation? Take a peak at Sharn's (@sharns_house) so you know what to expect.
Sharn Rayment has been working long and hard on renovating her North London Victorian home. She started out reviving her lounge, then tackled her most lengthy project, the kitchen diner renovation, where she project managed her way from bare bricks to her dream space. Sharn finally changed out her overalls to chat all about her home, including everything from interior style to the big kitchen project.

A natural creative  👩‍🎨

“I work in social media for my day job and have always loved creating and sharing content online. I’m also a fiend for using YouTube and Instagram for home inspiration and DIY tutorials, so when we started renovating I thought I’d try and give back and creatively share my own wisdom for those who might need it!”

Bold colours & shapes 🟢

“My style is changing all the time, but one thing I know is that I love colours and shapes, rather than pretty prints. So I tend to go for bold shades or graphic accessories over floral wallpapers – and I’m not a big moodboard-er, I just tend to go with what I'm first drawn to. DIY’ing plays a huge part, as I like to make things look as good as possible without having to splash out for someone to do it for me! I often find inspiration online and think ‘could I create a version of that?’, then strap in and just see what happens.”

The big kitchen project 🛠

“The kitchen diner project has been an absolute beast! It’s taken us eight months to renovate the rooms, and having never replaced a kitchen before, we had a lot to learn. We planned the floor layout first, switching around the original dining space and the kitchen, which dictated where electrics and plumbing needed to be moved to. From there, we ripped the whole place out and started from scratch – new floorboards, new electrics, a new roof, the lot."

Sharn talks through the new flooring, dining space, electrics & plumbing 🙌

"There’s nothing that hasn’t been done, from plastering to brickwork, windows to underfloor heating, and me and my partner have project managed every part ourselves. It’s been tough trying to handle it all while both working full-time, and there have been delays and unexpected surprises – like the damp issue we found in the very back of the house. But we’ve tried to take everything as it comes and learn along the way. As a result, I’m really proud of what we’ve created and I’ve enjoyed sharing the ups and downs with my audience through it all!”

‘Clean, sharp & modern’ touches ✨

“I’m a gold girl through and through, so the hardware was always going to be brass, and I love a little textured detail. I’m not one for a farmhouse style kitchen – I knew I wanted something clean, sharp and modern, which is really what Plank embodies for me. The HUMBOLDT knob is super simple, smart and premium, but the knurled texture gives it that edge. Plus they’re even more stunning in real life!”

Spotlighting other topics 🔦

“I absolutely use my platform to represent and discuss issues beyond home renovation. The interiors world I see online is very white and full of privilege, and I’m very aware that I’m also part of that problem. While I’m not one of the mega rich, I recognise my privilege to be able to afford a home in the first place –  especially given the state of the country at present – and how fortunate I am to be able to afford renovations on top of that. So it’s definitely important I use my platform to shine a light on issues and causes beyond interiors, and show that there are many bigger things in life than paint and TikToks!”

Small projects, big rewards

“It doesn’t have to be anything big, but DIY’ing something gives you a real sense of achievement and saves you cash! Just painting a wall can fill you with pride, and gives you complete control and freedom over what you’re doing. There’s nothing more rewarding than looking at part of your home and thinking ‘yeah, I did that!’”

Bubble & biscuit Break 🍪

"I don’t drink tea or coffee (I just don’t like it!), but you can always find me with a fizzy drink in hand… I very much have the palette of an eight year old! Biscuits are also an absolute must – Jammie Dodgers are top of my list."

Tiktok inspo 🤳

"I love TikTok – I love video content, amazing visuals and a bit of storytelling, which is what I try to do with everything I put out. My go-to accounts are:"

Jamming to musicals & pop

“Music while renovating is a must to keep your spirits and mood high, even when things are an absolute mess! I’m not a podcaster – you’re much more likely to find me listening to musicals or 90s bangers. Here are some tracks from a few albums and artists I've been loving:"
A huge thank you to Sharn for joining us for a TEA BREAK. Why not follow her DIY home journey over at @sharns_house?
